2 Apple, Inc.: America's Most Admired

How well do you know the company that is most admired in the US and even in the world? Well, who cares? So long as one enjoys using the iPod or the iPhone and gets to use the Mac conveniently, what is there to know about this company? But for the curious ones, here are tidbits about the company that many has grown to love.

Apple was established in Cupertino, California in 1976 by Steve Jobs, John Wozniak and Ronald Wayne. It was incorporated in 1997 and called the Apple Computer, Inc. It was first established to market a compute that is designed by Wozniak that they call the Apple I personal computer kit. Thirty years hence, it dropped the word Computer to reflect its diversification into other electronic products save from its original focus on personal computers.

Since then, Apple has established a unique reputation in the computer industry. It has a loyal customer base that tends to create a unique Apple/Mac community that is distinct from other electronic gadget users. Such uniqueness makes the Apple products a top item in the hierarchy of most – coveted electronic gadget, be it a laptop, a digital player or a mobile phone.

The fist personal computer kit, by today’s standard is a doubtful candidate for being called a proper computer. However, from such a laughable bunch of keyboards, monitor and other awkward gadgets rose the conglomerate that gives the world the best and most well – engineered electronic products and software there is.

Apple loyalists are surely familiar with the range of hardware and software products of the company. Best known hardware include the Macintosh computer, the iPhone, the iPod, and the most recent, the iPad. Software and their functions include:

  1. The Mac OS X operating system that runs on every apple computer and desk top
  2. The iTunes media browser
  3. The iLife , a bunch of multimedia and creativity software
  4. The iWork, used for professional audio and film production software
  5. The Logic Studio, a suite of audio tools.

All these software are exclusively running on apple hardware. Unlike its rival Microsoft’s Windows environment, Apple’s Mac OS rarely run on cheap to moderately – priced hardware. It is always shipped with state of the art, beautifully designed and yet quite expensive computer, laptop or mobile phone.

But such do not deter a lot of people from patronizing Apple’s products. Mac users say they would never trade their Mac Book for anything else. It does not only help in their job. It also makes them look good.

Apple has had its shares of ups and down as a company. To date, Apple has successfully built a global brand that is known to many yet used by only a few. On the top of the reasons is that their products are very expensive. Apple relies more on big margins rather than mass production, and it suits just well for the company’s image. Exclusivity, coupled with great engineering and intelligent software, Apple is and will continue to be the most admired company and its products most sought after.

Apple is a great business story, which along the way to becoming a great innovative company built a cult following.
When it started in 1976 (with a $250 k loan) founded by Steve(s) Wozniak and Jobs they had the future in their hands. Developing a computer to go up against (at the time) Atari for Games and then the IBM PC for personal computing it was a road to gold, with many ahreholders along the way getting rich. In 1979 when visiting Xerox PARC labs (another tech giant in the making) he saw what eventually became the apple graphical user interface (GUI) and the mouse. In 1984 in true david and goliath marketing genius, during th esuperbowl, apple released a now famous ad where a lone (woman) runner amonst zombie like clones (the IBM PC users) she throws a sledge hammer at a screen to break their transe. Then in 1985, along came Gil Amelio and John Skully. Skully ( a former beverage company executive) had other plans for the business strategy, pushed jobs out, risked the loyal customer base, and the company struggled for over a decade. Jobs had left to found NEXT and co found Pixar (the digtial movie making company responsible for many of the best animated movies in the last 7 years). By 1996 Apple bought NEXT, and in 1997 Gil Amelio was ousted as CEO, back came Steve Jobs and the religious base of customers returned in flocks. The effect they had on America is three fold. In a classic story of greed and wrong choice, the man whos talent was questioned in foudning the company proved he indeed know the what the customers needed better than the Board (Skully & co.). They also brought more market defining innovative products to the masses than any other company in the last three decades. Third, they broke the mold that many companies fal in with one hit wonders. They proved they could compete in the PC business (against Microsoft and IBM), they proved they could create a market for music (the ipod revolution) and in their most recent success, they redefined what people should expect from a cell phone. Along the way they made such compelling products that it made people want to buy more of the companies product after getting a dose of its products. A formula every company wishes it could replicate, but few have. A great business story. A great innovation company. A great story about rise, fall and then rise from the ashes.
I dont own a MAC or an iPOD or an iPhone, nor do I work for Apple (or ever have).

They are a business, so unfortunately they'll do what they can to get as much money from people as possible. For example, they released the DS Lite only a year or so after the original, so people had to buy another DS to stay current and get the best experience. They do slight upgrades so you end up buying effectively the same thing multiple times. It's just how they work I'm afraid.

ill make sure to vote for him, thanks!

3:06 ……This is where i went 0_0 the one car that hit a hay stack and didnt catch on fire got a BLAST! of fire extinguisher..BUT now they’re letting a child (looks like a child) LIGHT the damn car on fire before it races down the track

10 shares of each. Starting with BAC and C, pick one, sell the other. BAC looks better at this moment, but the first shoe hasn't dropped for them, let alone the second.

CAI – I don't do airlines.

PFE – The dividend is good and is probably safe – hold it

Dump one bank. On the safe side, try NKE, UA, or utilities like DUK or SE. TSM and KEP are also good.

Yhoo is 50/50 – maybe you win, maybe you're left holding the bag. I say sell it on a good day.

AAPL: good stock – too expensive for me!

As for research, read everything available about the companies that interest you. And, don't believe everything you read or hear on TV. One good way to predict a stock's performance is to measure its foreign market exposure. One person suggested PG and someone suggested GE. Both companies are benefiting from overseas growth and both firms are diversified.

@ThaPrey
what do you mean (A) i live in amsterdam xd don’t get what you mean but i think your not form holland so it must involve drugs?

its not that important for me or us to learn those facts that you had stated..what's important is we do get reasoning and critical thinking skills. in that way, we may be able to be mentally alert even though we don't have all the facts in the world…

@ThaPrey Until you get caught by police when your sextouristy in Red Light District catches wind…

looooooooooool..really good one lara..thank you

kip kay has better projects…

@malon141 Yes i was talking about drugs. although that in conjunction with watching this would be pretty sweet.

You don’t necessarily need to be in Amsterdam for that. Of course, elsewhere one might run afoul of the law but I’ve made a habit of breaking laws and not getting caught.

lol That last one is hilarious!!!!

@ThaPrey
