DAILY CES COVERAGE: gadgets.boingboing.net. Greetings from the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show in Lost Wages, Nevada! Xeni here with the Boing Boing Gadgets fellas — Beschizza, Brownlee, and Johnson, and Boing Boing’s video production team. We’re traveling the floor with the BBG 3, surveilling all they review, and we’ll be filing daily video reports from the expo floor. Here is the first, embedded above. Highlights from this episode * So you’ve probably heard there’s an “Official Blog of CES,” right? So, screw those guys, we’re more awesome. In this episode, Gary Shapiro CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association (the group that puts on CES) dubs Joel Johnson the Official King of CES, then bows down to him and touches Joel’s invizibul robe. * Rob Beschizza shows us what he likes about the new netbooks from Asus, namely the screens you can swivel around to use as touch-sensitive tablets (disclaimer: Asus is sponsoring BB Video’s presence at CES, but not BB Gadgets. Rob actually didn’t know anything about it at the time, so this isn’t paid placement or editorial whoring). * Joel grills the everliving crap out of the poor guy tasked with representing Sharper Image here. Joel was a big fan of the early incarnation of the mega-gadgets chain store, but believes they went to hell before they were recently bought out and resurrected. Joel’s advice to the new guy: don’t speak to us in marketingese, please, and stop making crappy products. * Joel talks with the guys at WowWee …
Help answer the question about electronics gadgets
Why do people flock to buy the newest electronics and gadgets? Is it a man thing? Why do they pay stupid prices for stuff when you can wait a year or more and get it much much cheaper? I don't understand the rush to get the newest lastest thing when you are paying much much more than what it's worth. I am not poor. I could afford it but I don't like being ripped off.

WOW! That's quite a bit of electronics!
Okay, so if hes into electronics you could get him the latest phone out with the applications he likes. or an ipod and docking station.
or if you want to stay away from the gadget side of things you could get him tickets to his favourite team or show?
Or use google and see if theres any gadget shows coming up. if that makes sense?
lol, hope i helped

OMG!!! It was doing the robot dance….. awsome!!!
this thing can dance better than me
You should try looking at eBay.com they sell everything there.
better dancer than me lol
There's always an ipod or game system like a psp or ds. If you already have those things, you could try one of the new netbooks. They're extremely portable and run as low as $300. With tax or shipping it would work out to about $350.
Camcorders cost around that much. If you're not afraid of building something, you can build a MAME system or even an HDTV for that price. (HDTV projector made of plywood and a monitor plans are on the internet.)
Kinda creepy how it looks at you when you talk
I like the step, when he does the robot .
thanks!
For all electronic gadgets and computer stuff, you can try Funan shopping centre (located near City Hall MRT station) for quality goods or Sim Lim Square (located between Little India or bugis MRT station) for bargain stuff.
One trick is to really know your stuff well before going to these 2 places if not you will be ended up as a carrot (deliciously chop and strew) and always ask for a discount especially in Sim Lim Square.
You might want to consider comparing a few shops before deciding on your purchases -the prices of the shops might vary a lot so going to one shop might be expensive while another might be cheap.
Also know what is in the package of the gadget so the black shop there won't be selling you "spare" parts that is suppose to be in the package.
I worked there (Sim Lim Sq) for 1 weekend and I can tell you some salesman (for their own commission) are willing to sell very expensive to foreigners who don't talk for discount.
wow so amazing it seems almost like a person in a suit!
your best bet is probably a pawn shop.
Dam, that looks like a animation but its not!
You are on the right track they use a higher voltage and a very different plug layout than what we use in North America. Just be certain that your adapter is of high quality the cheaper ones can damage your precious electronics.
Hey aunt Natty! Nice work =)
