It is that time of year again when you have to start thinking about buying presents for your friends, family, work colleagues and loved ones. Mind you, it is always that time of year; what with all those birthdays, anniversaries, occasions for impromptu congratulations like the fact that your nephew has just passed his driving test after taking it 5 times. Now that warrants an unusual gifts. And then there are the neighbours who are expecting their first baby any minute now, and of course Great Grandma has made it to 100, so she’ll probably really appreciate a personalised trinket box, or possibly a helicopter ride, depending on what type of granny she is

If, like me, you get into a flat panic at the first sound of Jingle Bells in the supermarket, because it signals the start of the crazy season yet again, have no fear. You can work your way through the present list in a flash by getting every single person a fabulous and unusual gift, something that they will not be expecting and yet something they will be really pleased with.

There is definitely no point in buying a mobile phone for anyone as a gift, as nearly everyone has one already, except me if anyone’s wondering what to buy me. They are all happy with their ring tones, camera facilities and whatever other gizmos they have as features. However, I’m willing to bet that nobody will have a Little Miss Naughty MoPod. What on earth … I hear you cry. This little beauty is a truly unusual gift that is suitable for anyone aged 5 to 105. Purple faced Little Miss Naughty spins and flashes as she interacts with your mobile when it has an incoming call. How can you resist this unusual gifts entertainment and practical value? You will probably decide that you need one for yourself, so be generous and buy an extra one.

For all your friends who spend most of their time on another planet, they will really appreciate this weird and unusual gift of a Mystery UFO. This little gadget will entertain everyone at the office party this year. It appears to float without the help of batteries, magnets or any other force, other than…. Well, only the lucky recipient will know how it works, but it is guaranteed to be a conversation piece, never the less. If you have friends or family members who like to play tricks and are real wind up merchants, they will love to receive unusual gifts from you. What could be more suitable than a remote controlled fake black widow spider? Sit back and watch Auntie Betty leap out of her chair as this life like arachnid creeps silently over her shoulder. Better still, you can really worry the cat with this fabulous toy, but be on your guard. Someone may decide that it’s your turn to be given a shock.

How many people have you got on your gift list that could be classified as senior? I have had senior moments since my 20s, and so a collection of Signs for Senior Moments makes a fantastic gift for almost everyone who manages to forget what whatsisname is called, and exactly where oojimerflip lives. This unusual gift consists of 46 witty but apt signs which you can put on your desk to make you chuckle, especially at those increasingly frequent times when your mind goes blank. For the young, or just the young at heart, a Dennis the Menace catapult kit includes cans and tomato shaped foam balls for safe and friendly target practice. Perhaps this is just what your workmates need after a hard day of dogsbodying or distributing loud orders, depending on how far up the greasy pole they are. Either way, it will put a smile on their face and give them oodles of pleasure as they aim and fire, letting their inner child out for just a while. They will need to keep an eye out for the boss though; otherwise they may soon be catapulted back into the job market.

I expect there are squillions of us who have trouble getting out of bed in the morning. The alarm clock is always within reach and it is too easy to turn over and go back to sleep. Some people even go to the extreme of having more than one alarm clock on the go, perhaps spread around the bedroom to force them out of their nest. The Clocky Clock Alarm Clock is the perfect solution for all those lazy bones sleepy heads who never quite make it to work or school on time. This gizmo bleeps at you, but if you do not respond in time, it goes walk about around your bedroom, still bleeping. Not happy with this alone, it then finds a cheeky hiding place and continues to witter on until you find it. This is bound to get you up and running in no time, and you will earn your gold stars by never being late in the mornings again.

you could try asking in the consumer electronics section…

i dont ever leave home without my gun
knife lighter flashlight cash
petroleum jelly
and clothes

Okay, so if hes into electronics you could get him the latest phone out with the applications he likes. or an ipod and docking station.
or if you want to stay away from the gadget side of things you could get him tickets to his favourite team or show?
Or use google and see if theres any gadget shows coming up. if that makes sense?
lol, hope i helped

i don’t need the Sony reader i need ya baby

I prefer real books as well… but I don’t prefer to lug them around, so Im getting an e-reader. Only question is, should i get the Sony or the Nook? (Im not getting the kindle due to amazons proprietary e-book format).

Packing the kitchen is one of those things you really hate to do, simply because there are so many small items and items you're never quite sure you should pack or not.

For a family-sized kitchen, you'll need the following:

* 5 Large Boxes (18 x 18 x 24): For lightweight and hard to pack items such as plastic kitchenware, dish racks, small appliances, baking tins.
* 10 Medium Boxes (18 x 18 x 16): For heavier items such as small appliances, pantry items, pots and pans, silverware, contents of drawers, cookbooks.
* 5 Heavy Duty Boxes (18 x 18 x 28): These have thick, double-walls, perfect for packing fragiles, such as plates, glasses, stemware, wine and canisters.
* Unprinted Newswrap: To pack fragiles, including food items, small appliances. Purchase a 4-5 lbs bundle.
* Bubblewrap: Purchase a 36 ft roll or if it saves money, purchase additional amounts. You'll need it to pack other rooms.
* 5-10 Cell Kits (18 x 18): Cell kits are extremely useful for packing glasses, stemware, wine and liquor bottles. I've also used them to pack figurines, vases and canisters. Check the sizes of your cell kits to ensure they'll fit into the boxes you have.
* 5 Packing/Sealing Tape: Purchase in bulk as you'll need it for packing all your rooms.
* Marker, labels: Again purchase enough so you can pack your entire house.

I can only assume you need to open the desktop gadgets program and see if there is an item to check that locks them in place. Since I don't use those, this is only a suggestion.

There always seems to be a lot of gadgets and other neat gift ideas in the Sky Mall magazine on the airplane. You can find all of the same items on their website too.

Wired.com has some great links/articles about gadgetry.

I dont think its poosible.
Sorry you have to manage it

I refuse to buy a Kindle or a Sony Reader.

Here’s an idea, do you have an actual shelf with Books, pick up a REAL book and actually read it.

Lovely, just lovely. I cannot wait to get my grubby hands on this fabulous piece of technology.

good idea grandpa

I prefer real books.

Ebooks are hard on my eyes Anyways.

Pirate’s would use ALOT of INK and Super Duper Scanners (fast and high quality), just to pirate Real books.

On Friday, Oct. 24th, Oprah had her newest favorite gadget! It is a dedicated electronic reader called "The Kindle". You can see one at Amazon.com. This reader can download a book in a minute or less and also can play music and has WiFi capabilities if you are in a Sprint Whispernet area. I was so impressed by the design and functions of the "The Kindle" that I ordered one that very day and should be getting it this Thursday. I read a lot and books are so expensive. Amazon.com currently has just over 190,000 books available to down load (and added more daily) for usually less than half the price of either a hardback or paperback book. "The Kindle" can also download newspapers and magazines (minus adds and some syndicated publishings) for much less than you pay at the newsstands. I searched everything I could find about "The Kindle" before ordering mine and I found very few people who didn't like theirs. Even my husband got excited over this new gadget. Never thought I would like to even think about reading something without actually feeling the paper and smelling the ink just as Oprah said she didn't think she would either, but I am willing to give it a thorough testing because it will pay for itself rapidly! This device was marketed at $399.00, but Amazon has it on sale for $359.00 (sorry folks, Friday was the only day for Oprah's $50.00 discount). There are no additional monthly costs other than the books you buy. You can also download books to your computer if you do not get the Sprint Whispernet in your area, which is what I will have to do. However, if I step just a half-hour drive outside my hometown, I could download as many books as I want without my computer. I go out of town a lot so it shouldn't be a problem for me. You can own up to six 'Kindles' per account and share the books among your family. If you loose you Kindle or something happens to a book, Amazon keeps a copy of each and every item you have download and you can download it again for free. Cool, I think! You can change the font size of your text from very small to very large. The screen is made with "E-ink" and unlike plasma or LCD, you can easily see the text while outside, but if you read in bed at night as I do, you will need a lamp or booklight which is no problem to clip on just as an ordinary book. I could tell you more, but you really should check this out, particularly if you are an avid reader, on the go a lot, or even if you just want to share this with a friend. You can also put it in a ziplock bag and take it to the beach or read in the bathtub (which I love to do!). Hope this helped.

Perhaps you didn’t read that report where a Publisher forced Amazon to pull a eBook from all of their customers Kindle and give a ReFund.

So, go ahead and get a eBook Reader

I’m waiting for a report that says WiFi and/or Computer Crackers have a picnic.

I like her voice! :P

Oh no I don’t mean real books, I mean the e-books would be pirated, I prefer real books myself, I feel it would be easier to turn to a page you are interested in going back to. Though it’d be easier to find keywords in e-books (if they had a find feature) if you were writing a paper on it.
