If age, illness or infirmity is causing you mobility problems, you have a number of possible solutions. The traditional one is the wheelchair. However the mobility scooter can be a more attractive option. Here’s a look at mobility scooters so you can decide if it’s the right device for you.

Firstly, what exactly is a mobility scooter? It’s an aid to mobility that functions like a wheelchair but has a configuration like a motor scooter. It’s also known as a power-operated scooter or an electric scooter. Mobility scooters range from small folding travel scooters to heavy-duty items.

Mobility scooters consist of a seat over two rear wheels. There’s a flat area to rest the feet and handlebars in front. Some have swivelling seats to make access easier. Mobility scooters are controlled by tillers which offer forward and reverse movement and speed controls. They are powered by rechargeable batteries

So are they for you? Mobility scooters are similar to wheelchairs but are generally lighter and cheaper. Generally, mobility scooters are best for people with milder mobility problems, perhaps related to age. They are especially helpful for users suffering from whole-body disabling conditions such as heart conditions or arthritis. Users just need to be able to sit erect without torso support. A scooter is also suitable for persons without the stamina or arm/shoulder flexibility needed for a manual wheelchair.

Other advantages of mobility scooters include greater manoeuvrability compared to wheelchairs. This makes it possible to make tighter turns and navigate more types of terrain. The batteries, too, last longer than those in wheelchairs.

On the downside, the length of mobility scooters restricts their turning radius and the low ground clearance can make navigation of curbs difficult. They are also unsuitable for some people due to their lack of body support, for the head or legs for example.

Now let’s look at the types of mobility scooters available.

Mobility scooters are in two main classes. Class 2 scooters are for pavement use only and have a maximum speed of 4 mph. Class 3 scooters can travel on the road and have a maximum speed of 8 mph. To travel on the pavement, a Class 3 scooter needs to be fitted with a restrictor switch that limits the speed to 4 mph. They must also have front and rear lights, traffic indicators, rear view mirrors and a horn.

The choice of mobility scooter or wheelchair should depend on a number of factors but fundamentally, if you have to remain in your mobility device for most of the day, a wheelchair will be more comfortable. On the other hand, scooters are more attractive in appearance.

If you’ve decided to invest in a mobility scooter, here are some tips. Firstly, always buy one with a recognised brand name. These include Pride Mobility Products, Shoprider Mobility Scooters, and Sunrise Medical. All these companies have head offices in the UK and dealers all around the country. This is useful for maintenance and spare parts.

Next, always try and match your size and weight before you buy. In fact, try a number of scooters until you find one that feels comfortable for such factors as legroom. You can ask the sales person to make various adjustments to the tiller or the seat for you. Take on for a spin and see if you’re comfortable with the stability and the way it feels going over various surfaces.

Your best option is to find a firm with a track record in providing mobility scooters and mobility scooters products. Such a firm has the experience and knowledge to give you the critical advice you need when buying the right scooter.

1995 mobile home. Will standard plug-in and light switch replacements work?
I am going to rent this place, and the light switches and plug-ins need replaced. Can I just buy these from lowe's or will I need to go to a mobile home supply store?

I'm Canadian, so I'm a little biased.

The promise of The New Deal was a job for everyone who wanted one. Times have changed, but the desire to take care of ones family hasn't.

I feel that our health care system is one of the best in the world. Are there problems? Of course. You hear random horror stories. But everyone can get medical care.

Also, you don't see Canadian going bankrupt over medical bills – there are a handful, of course. But these are people with orphan illnesses that are harder to treat.

As someone with several medical conditions, I would never be able to get insurance in the US and never get the level of care that I do here.

Don't let the insurance companies, HMOs and Republicans continue their fear mongering. The Canadian system is a credit to our country.

But the problem is that Americans have been living beyond their means for so long that they don't see the real impact. So much money has been spent on defence, the military, and other programs, that things like schools and hospitals were given the short shift.

Now, with things falling apart, it costs more to fix. As for government jobs, I have worked in both the private sector and the public sector. In Canada, I have found them comparable. But you want teachers and nurses and other people working for the government to do a good job. Paying them a decent wage is only part of the equation.

And America has more people in jail per population than any other country in the world. So much is spent on superprisons and law enforcement, without trying to understand the root of criminal behaviour. 80% of all crimes committed by women are driven by poverty. So, yes, dealing with poverty and other causes of crime are a good thing.

And despite what is portrayed, most of these people don't want a hand-out, just a chance to have some personal success.

One thing I agree with you with is some salaries. We have some bureaucrats making $300 000 to manage health agencies. The logic is that we need the best and the brightest.

Well, if we can get 4th best, pay them $125 000 and hire three or four more nurses, I think we would be better off.

There is a balance. You want good people making the tough decisions in government and you want them there for the right reasons. For years, the best, brightest, and those seeking wealth went into the private sector. How much did the heads of those big banks make? And how much in bonuses? They had a hand in making this mess.

Government now wants some of the best and brightest. Those who are doing something just for money are better off in the private sector anyway. If they are going to pillage and steal, let them stick to private corporations.

I believe in a living wage for everyone who is willing to work. If that makes me crazy, so be it.

A bit rambling, but my slightly socialist bent.

The answer to all your qestions is: Not nearly as many as Muslims have.
You want to find Slave Markets in the 21st century? Look in the Muslim world. You want to find religious conversion @ gunpoint? look at Muslims. Legal pedophilia? Muslims. You spew hate at me for point out a poor job of reporting by AJ but in your mind theres no problems in the ME that US leaving, and wiping Israel out wouldn’t fix. We aren’t fighting in Pakistan, but the Taliban is killing Pakistanis there. Think about it.

Before u got there, there was a conflict among the muslims, not muslims and christians. You r a one big liar, but than i know u r a christian so it really does not matter.Christians are basically liers etc and it is all forgiven.

Whatever, You wanted fact i gave you the fact.

If iraqis have done somethings IN REACTION to the destruction and occupation of their country to the people of another faith.,i do not deny it or support it but than it is another story and reaction. And COMPARED TO MUSLIMS , IRAQI CHRISTIANS HAVE FACED NOTHING.

I saw an Op-Ed piece with no bonafides. I saw people rendering opinions about what was going on. Again, you are entitled to your own opinions, but not your own facts. If I say IMHO, You are a(), is that fact? I see some guy in a turban saying “they are stealing our Muslim heritage” thats his own opinion. Theres 100s of videos here showing the slaughter of Iraqi Christians by Muslims. You think your video means a thing in the face of That? Do you deny the slaughter of Iraqi Christians by Muslims?

Last word. The Christians slaughtered in Iraq by Muslims were all Iraqi Arab Christians before we got there. The Jews slaughtered in Iraq in the 40s…were also Iraqi Arabs. That’s Arabs killing Arabs. But Arab Jews aren’t killing Christians and Muslims, and Iraqi Christians aren’t killing Muslims and Jews. It’s Arab Muslims who are doing the killing. Put that in your Hookah and puff a while. Good day.

Before we got there and ever since Muslims have killed Hundreds of thousands of Other Muslims “fisabiallah”. Your attempts to smear me and label me dont change the facts. The Taliban populated mass graves with Afghans. Now they are 3days march from Islamabad. Arab Muslim terrorist at one point were killing Muslims at a rate almost equal to Saddam. I know its illogical to try to reason with you but think of this as a family intervention. When Muslims stop slaughtering their brothers, we’ll leave.

Who r u to arbitrate difference between muslims?
Stop talking about mass graves, you people have destroyed muslim cities and countries. How many villages in Afg. have u destroyed and turned into graves ,Using all illegegal weapons on them? Now u r concerned about muslims killing muslims.

Why donot u go and tame “LODRDS RESISTANCE ARMY” killing hundred of thousands of people in the name of ur LORD?

Personally I am done with ur rubbish thank u for enlightening me.
