Motorola doesn't have a parent company.
I did a semester team project on Motorola's handset division for my MBA final project.
It's really not that hard to just google this.
Cable boxes don't have GPS.
They can certainly disable it remotely.
They may be able to identify the general area it is located.
It would be so awesome to work there!
I know cing/at&t does and verizon does (b/c I had one)… I believe most of them carry that phone
The only thing I am not sure of is the red.. Sometimes certain carrier have certain colors (that are just for them).
I believe verizon has the red. I had a black razor with at&t but there are light pink and blue as well for at&t. I would assume red would be just veriozns'.
In order to use your phone on a carrier other than what was intended, you need to have the phone "unlocked". It is usually a difficult procedure to unlock a phone, but with the razr being as popular as it was, you may be able to find step-by-step instructions on how to do it yourself. The only exception to this is if the carriers are not compatible. Some carriers use GSM technology, while others use CDMA… as long as the carrier you're leaving uses the same technology as the one you're going to, it is theoretically possible to unlock the phone and transfer it to another carrier.

Hope this helps! Good luck!!
As far as service in NYC, both Verizon and ATT have amazing coverage so whatever company you choose, you will have great service
As to the V8, this is a GSM phone and will work with ATT, not Verizon. ATT does not offer the V8 but you can purchase the phone unlocked and use it with ATT. In NYC, T-Mobile offers the V8 in their lineup, ATT offers the V9. If you were going to go with ATT, I would recomend the V9 over the V8 as the V9 is a 3g phone and will work with the att 3g network. The V8 is a non 3g phone.
if you were going to choose Verizon, you would have to choose the V9M CDMA phone, the V8 or V9 would not work on Verizons CDMA network
Mom and pop and Chinatown stores will give you the best deal
I had a V30 from TMobile. They sent me the unlock code and guide through email after I asked. Free.
Not sure about other companies.
