Although your day-to-day business may not be as top-secret as what goes on within the FBI or CIA you still want to know that you can control access to your facility. You want to know who comes in the doors at what time and how long they stay. You also want to know what time they departed so that you can monitor its activities within your place of business. Some areas may be more sensitive than others and may require higher level security systems. Other areas may be accessible to anyone such as outdoor smoking and eating areas or public restrooms. The purpose in having facility access control system is in place is so that you can control who goes where and when. It may not seem like a big deal until it comes time for inventory control. Also, many employers find that access control systems keep employees honest in terms of time actually spent on the job. If an employee needs to have some form of identification to scan into a security system in order to enter different parts of the building they know they need to be at the desk or at their station because big brother is watching.
