VoIP or Voice over Internet Protocol is a technology that taken the telecom industry by storm by introducing significant changes in the field of telecommunications. Because of the changes it has brought to the traditional telephony system it has become a hot favorite in both the residential and commercial market.
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is basically a process, which converts your voice into digital signals that travel over internet. Its most prominent feature is its affordability. With VoIP you can make long distance calls at a fraction of cost that you used to pay to your telephone companies. It is primarily because of the fact that transferring digital signals over internet is quite cheaper than transferring analog signals over the traditional telephone lines.

Presently there are several companies that are offering VoIP services and hardware to the growing market for the VoIP. However, the VoIP technology is so new that even the latest VoIP hardware becomes outdated in few months. Thus, one needs to be very careful while investing in the VoIP hardware. First of all, you should decide what kind of VoIP service is perfect for you. Then compare the cost of the VoIP hardware with that of the traditional phones. If it costs more than the traditional phones then there is no use of buying it as it is not advisable to buy VoIP equipment just for the sake of having the latest technology. Moreover as the products become outdated very fast you should purchase them only when needed. If you are using VoIP then you should be ready to spend more money in future to upgrade your hardware. Also, the installation costs are to be paid every time you change or upgrade your hardware. Finally, before going to shop for VoIP hardware you must collect information about the different vendors and should only select a licensed or authorized dealer.

Is there a major or job for computer hardware?Hello there. Currently I'm in college now and I want to change my major to computer hardware if there is a major for one. I'm fairly knowledgeable on the insides on computers and I can take apart HDD, Memory, PCI slots, Processors, and mother boards. But I really lack in computer programming and I do NOT want To study computer programming. Took it in high school, I can not understand Java at all! What kind of job or major can I get with this knowledge.

You might try taking a class at a technical college. I'm taking a computer hardware class and when you do so, you don't have to worry about screwing up a computer, it becomes part of the learning process.
In high school I did a work experience program (for school credit) at a local computer repair shop. It was done for no pay of course, but I learned quite a bit.
I'd recommend going to a local computer shop (not the shain stores like Staples or Future Shop, but a Ma and Pop shop) and and ask if you can do some job shadowing once a week or so on a volunteer basis. I imagine someone will want the assistance.
I learned a lot over just 6 months at the place I worked at, and I only put in about 1 hr twice a week.

They design and test hardware. Computer also doesn't just mean PCs. Cell phones, GPS, iPod, rice cooker, some washer/dryer, car stero are all products made by hardware engineers.
To become one you will need (minimum) a BS in Computer Science or some kind of Engineering Degree.
As far as updating components it shouldnt be too difficult, especially if your building a new pc. If you OS is Vista, just try picking components that are compatible and it should work fine without any updates. And so on for any OS.
Also, I'm a fan of "if its working right, why update?". Sometimes updating a component can make it worse rather than better.
Mostly it's a matter of what you're using it for. I don't believe there is any computer hardware which is "illegal" in itself. This doesn't include anything homemade specifically to commit illegal acts.
Say you get a top-of-the-line color printer. That's not illegal. Now you print out money with it. That's illegal, especially if you print it out so well that it looks pretty darn close to real money.
Just keep to the legal stuff and you'll have nothing to worry about. Or don't get caught. Up to you.
