Is it true that technology companies hate hiring Ivy League grads in Computer Science?I heard from somewhere that many software and technology companies avoid hiring computer science grads from Ivy League schools because essentially, they just need someone who knows how to program, and Ivy League grads come off as arrogant or too ambitious (a threat to management).
Is this true? Is it really hard for a company to hire someone from a top school for a programmer or IT consulting position?

That's a really tough decision and I really don't know which one I'd be going for.
The London job being what you want to pursue as a career is a plus; the long commute is a decided minus, but it sounds like the Melbourne job may have better prospects which should offer you an exciting and lucrative future, even if it's not exactly what you had in mind.
Melbourne's a great city but I wouldn't say that Keilor Park is going to be exciting in any way. Public transport out there isn't as good as in many other areas, so you're probably going to have to drive and that will add to your expenses, but out that far, the commute time will be MUCH less than 90 minutes if you choose somewhere not too far away. Be warned though, it's very suburban/industrial and the parts I've seen weren't very attractive at all. It's a fair way from the city though it doesn't take long at all to get there by car out of peak times. I'd look for a place to live around Pascoe Vale, Essendon, Moonee Ponds which are between Keilor Park and the city, so you'll be driving in the opposite direction to most of the traffic to get to and from work.
Another thing. I'd look into that Melbourne pay again. 35-40k is really lousy pay even for a new graduate, especially when you consider that our minimum wage for completely unskilled workers is over $28k and many of them will earn overtime or tips, whereas you are most unlikely to get anything extra. I would expect an absolute minimum of $45k and probably over $50k in your field.
Have you looked into the visa question? If it's for only 6 months, a Working Holiday visa would do the trick if you have an eligible passport (UK, Ireland, Canada, some EU countries), but even though the visa is for 12 months, 6 months is your maximum with any employer and immigration are utterly inflexible about that.
On balance, I'd say go for the Melbourne job, mainly because you sound like the adventurous type and I reckon you'll regret it if you don't.

@SpursSaintsMedia Finland has a lot of trees. Problem with cutting trees is with African countries as far as I know. I love it how relaxing it is to touch and smell paper while you read it and eat at the same time without the fear of getting some milk on top of an expensive machine that has too small screen to be able to enjoy the images.
Did you apply for a job there? If not its a scam. If you still think its legit do a google search for their website and find a contact address, number or email from that. Dont assume the website address they've given is legit.
It would depend on where you would want to live in the UK, but you would find that you could get a job in IT practically anywhere in the country….

@AaronBesson the ipad is not next gen touch tablet. It is the FIRST gen of a series of tablets already done by other companies. It’s not even a full computer (no multitasking or full version of computer apps) Don’t get me wrong I love the ipad, but it’s not that special technologically. The greatest thing the ipad has is a pretty package and a great app store.
I would give the inland revenue a call as this is quite complex. I shouldn't think you'd get a tax rebate, I don't know if I'm right or not but I would think that the revenue would view any earnings from this company as a second income and you would be taxed at basic rate, 22%.
So did you apply for a job and send your CV to this company? If not, then it is undoubtably a scam.

No UK company would employ somebody without interviewing them. No way! They would get into serious trouble with immigration hiring like this. A receptionist job is a non-skilled role and would be filled in 10 minutes by a UK/EU National. Not in a million years would any company in the UK be allowed to recruit a non UK/EU National for such a role. And IF a UK company was sponsoring you, you would not have to go through this rigmarole.
Do not contact them again. Ignore all future correspondence.
If you have given them your bank details, inform your bank and get your account no changed.
If you have given them the extensive personal information they have asked for in this correspondence, I think you need to let the authorities know just so that nothing can come back at you in the future (identity theft).
If you have paid money, you will just have to resign yourself to the fact that it is gone.
No reputable company uses 07 nos (can be redirected to any tel no in the world) or a free rmail provider such as yahoo, hotmail etc.
Workudos is a real company at that address, but not that tel no. Scammers often pick out rewal companies in the hope that if you google them you will be reassured that they really exist. However phone no is fake and probably no Dan Wright. Real Tel No is +44 1543444402 and proprieter is Nigel Grace.
Just remember in future, if something seems too good to be true, it probably is.
EDIT I don't care what Goran or anyone else posts here to try to make out these people are not crooks. This is a total scam, check with the real Workudos, it's an accountant. I bet he doesn't even have a receptionist never mind going to all the trouble, expense and time of trying to recruit someone from outside the EU.
Another anomaly, the job ad says a thriving IT/Telecomms company in the heart of London. This is an accoutants office in Staffordshire, approximately a 3 hour drive from central London!!
